Environmental conservation and preservation are urgent challenges that require a multidisciplinary approach involving scientists, researchers, resource managers, planners, policymakers, and other experts. Currently, UniSZA’s decentralized system of environmental learning and research leads to redundancy and inefficiency. To address this, the East Coast Environmental Research Institute (ESERI) is proposed to integrate various disciplines, including social sciences, ethics, politics, economics, law, management, administration, policy, engineering, and technology. ESERI will focus on Islam and Civilization, AgroIndustry, and Medical and Community, granting it the autonomy needed for strategic planning and effective management. This institute aims to produce experts in environmental science and engineering, attracting both local and international students through its postgraduate programs and aligning its curriculum with global pollution trends and sustainable development needs.
UniSZA, located on Malaysia’s East Coast, is well-positioned to address environmental issues through ESERI. The institute will enable comprehensive environmental research and support industrial sectors like oil and gas. ESERI will provide scientific support to government agencies, enhance fields like soil science and design engineering, and develop new areas such as Environmental Quality Engineering and Data Mining Techniques.
